A Romantic Take on My DIY Ruched Backless Top

I’m so excited to share a fresh take on my DIY ruched backless top. For this version, I made it in a beautiful dark red bamboo-linen fabric and paired it with a coordinating skirt that I also sewed.
Changing the fabric and color can completely transform a piece you already love, making it feel elevated and brand new, and I’m really happy with how this set turned out.
The ruched backless top has such a playful yet chic vibe. I kept the styling simple so the focus stays on the fabric, the ruching, and the silhouette. Paired with a matching bias cut skirt, it feels polished and cohesive without requiring much effort.
Fabric choice:
I used a medium-weight bamboo-linen blend in a deep red that drapes beautifully and really highlights the ruching. While the fabric is slightly on the thicker side and required tighter gathering, it still turned out beautifully. I love the deep red, earthy tone, which brings a sense of warmth and gives the set a romantic, special feel.
Styling:
I love a matching two-piece set. It instantly elevates any outfit. Pairing the top with a coordinating skirt creates a pulled-together look that works for everything from daytime outings to dressier occasions.
